FootsportCombat visit to Scotland
A chance meeting in Birmingham at the Worlds largest martial art show with Lee Sansum has been a pivotal experience for Nino and the development of FootsportCombat. Lee was watching a presentation of the system and was so impressed by the skills it could developed invited Nino up to Scotland to work with some of his top coaches and fighters.
Lee Sansum teaches nationally on the subjects of personal awareness, self protection and Martial arts. Lee protected Princess Diana and her sons in St Tropez during the summer of 1997, the tragic incidents that followed in paris would be the catalyst for his safety training programme being developed. His teachings are based on his life's experiences as a young man growing up on a large council estate in the late 70's, a military Police Officer, 5 th Dan Martial Artist and International Bodyguard. Lee was involved in investigating serious assaults and murder whilst serving with the Special Investigation Branch. He also had two years active service in Northern Ireland protecting witnesses and others at risk. Lee also spent four years as a personal bodyguard for Mr Mohammed Al Fayed and his family.
The Footsport team spent 14 hours travelling up to Lee's power base in the Highlands . After a good nights sleep, Nino and Lee met for a working breakfast at 6am. Any one who knows Lee will know that his day is full of positivity and constantly striving to perfect his art and developing his academy. After the meeting they both travelled to Lee's full time academy where Nino delivered a FootsportCombat session. Lee's coaches were very open minded and gave a 100% during the whole training session. Lee's in put was invaluable leading ways in which his particular style could benefit from the speed and reactive drills and adding the combat specific requirements. The freestyle karate that is used by Lee and his fighters is very dynamic and involves many advanced kicks. The Footsport system sat very comfortably into the specific requirements of combat movement, concentrating on multi-directional evasive movement.
Nino said “I will never forget the Lee Sansum experience, I can see why individuals who attend his seminars will often say it is a life changing experience. His martial arts knowledge base is quite extra ordinary and his coaches and pupils obviously have the up most respect for him. He is obviously an individual who has experienced more than most of us, sometimes in a very violent world. But Lee has kept his warmth and compassion and I would like to thank him and his wife for treating us all so well”.
